Robert Stephens dies at 85
Michigan City resident Robert A. Stephens, 85 died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center.
He was born Aug. 25, 1914 in Porter, the son of Theodore and Mabel (Anderson) Stephens, who preceded him in death.
On Dec. 27, 1938, in LaPorte County, he married Mildred Fay, who in 1999 also preceded him in death.
He is survived by four daughters, Judith (husband Roy) East of DeBary, Fla., Sandra Browning of Louisville, Ky., Janet (husband Peter) Kucera of Des Plaines, Ill., and Jill Bohlim of Fish Lake, Ind.; a son, William Robert Stephens of Michigan City; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ruth Kosmatka of Chesterton, Lois Hellman of Florida, and Marion Schultz.
He ws preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Stephens; and by a sister, Jeanette Myers.
Stephens was a masonry contractor and owner of Bob's Masonry Inc. He was a member of Brick Layers Local 6, attended New Life Wesleyan Church in Chesterton, and was a member of the Westchester Seniors Club. Stephens was also an avid bridge player.
Funeral services, Pastor Mike Cloud officiating, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at New Life Wesleyan Church. He will be interred at Chesterton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St. in Chesterton, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at New Life.

Correction on Robert Stephens obituary
The obituary of Robert Stephens, published on the back page of Monday's edition of the Chesterton Tribune, was in error.
Stephens, who died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at the age of 85, was a resident of Porter. His wife Mildred Fay Amstiss preceded him in death in 1997.
Stephens attended Waverly School and graduated from Chesterton High School. His sister, Marian Schultz is from Rocton, Ill.
The Tribune regrets the mistakes.
