Aged Resident Passes Away

Mrs. Louise Ludowicka Rueck Stephens was born in Brim, Germany, on Jan 21, 1851. She died on July 12, 1940 at the age of 89 years, 5 months, and 21 days.

She came to the United States and settled at Chesterton in 1871. Two years later she was united in marriage to Joseph Stephens. Her passed away in 1894. In 1895 she became a member of the First Methodist church of Chesterton.

Seven children were born to her. Three of them are deceased: Matthew, Frank and Tracy. Those surviving are John A., Theodore, and George L. Stephens, and Mrs. Anna L. Sievert, all of Chesterton. Surviving also are two step-children, Joseph A. Stephens and Mrs. Isabel Rintz, also of Chesterton. There remain a sister, Mrs. Anna Blum of Chicago, and a brother Antoine Rueck, who lives in the West. Other remaining relatives include 2 nieces, 2 nephews, 27 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the First Methodist church on Sunday, July 14 at 2:15 p.m. Rev. Henry Braum officiated. Edmonds funeral directors were in charge. Burial was in Chesterton cemetery. The Women’s Relief Corps participated in the service.

Pallbearers were the grandsons, Marion, Harrison, and Kenneth Stephens and Oliver, William and Arthur Sievert.

Out of town people attending the services included Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller and family, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Stephens, Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Greenleaf and Dorothy and Mrs. Ella Sears of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Stephens of Harvey, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Jack Myers of Hammond; and Mrs. Elihu Mills and family of Adrian, Mich.
