Porter resident Barbara Jean Walstra died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001 at the Valparaiso Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was 69.
Born on March 31, 1932 in Vandahlia, Ill., she was the daughter of Knute and Evelyn (Reiglan) Oness, both of whom preceded her in death. On Sept. 27, 1957 in Chesterton, she married Robert Walstra, who survives in Porter.
Also surviving are sons Rick Walstra (wife Sue) of Valparaiso and Pete Walstra (Denise) of Chesterton; daughter Dr. Susan Walstra of Fort Wayne; grandchildren Caitlin and Andrew Walstra; step-grandchildren Jennifer Livingston, Kelly Reynolds and John Aleccia; and three great-grandchildren.
A lifelong resident, she was a homemaker and a bus driver for 26 years with the Duneland School Corp. She was a member of the Chesterton First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 5517 S. Broadway, Chesterton, with the Rev. Terry Rhine officiating. Burial will be in Robbins Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Jan 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
